Why Does My Dog Keep Begging So Much?
Misbehaved Dog
Have you ever asked yourself why does my dog keep begging so much? It is amazing how cute and cuddly our beloved canine friends can be. It is also amazing what kind of rewards and gifts they can bring out of our human nature. It is a very common occurrence to see a dog beg and feel sorry for it. This is in some ways, tied to our human nature of compassion. Any way you look at it, you are going to have to stop giving in to your dog’s demands and start to look at training from some point of view, other than your own perspective. Try and look in on the situation from a bystander’s point of view. It will really help the way you deal with things.
Dogs will beg for a lot of reasons. One of the main reasons a dog will beg may or may not surprise you. Do you know what it might be? If you guessed it’s because they know they can get away with it, you are correct. So many dog owners give into the temptation of pleasing their pooch just because it is looking at them with a sad face. This madness has to stop because you are only hurting yourself.
Here is what you have to do. You are going to have to set yourself some goals and stick to them. This means that the dog must be in the other room during mealtimes and TV time (if need be). You are also going to have to stop feeding it food that you eat, if you so desire. The dog may be begging more often than not just because it wants one particular thing. Dogs can be like us in many ways. When they want something, they will keep at it until they get it. It is up to us to break this habit (both in the animal and in ourselves).
It is also up to your own judgment to decide for yourself, whether your dog is deserving of what it is asking. Keep in mind that a dog asking for something once and a while is not going to hurt it or you for that matter. However, if you continuously give in to the demands of amisbehaved dog, not only are you showing it that it can get away with anything, you are also showing the dog that it is boss. The last thing you need on your hands is an alpha dog.
Stay sharp, and keep in mind that you are the owner of the property. The pooch doesn’t pay the bills, water the lawn, shovel the driveway, drive the kids to school, and so on. Your pet is very dependent upon you for survival. It is not a wild pack animal like dogs used to be. They are now civilized and need us for their every need. Just because they need us to take care of them, does not mean that you should let them manipulate you. Stay strong and when you say “NO”, follow through with your command.
